To an inexperienced surfer, you might think that you need a really hot and sunny place to surf. In reality, there are great surfing spots all over Europe, even in some cold, unlikely places. If you want to pick up the sport or are just looking for a new place to travel with your board, here are the bests spots.

Ireland

Since it is technically the third largest island in Europe, there is plenty of spots in Ireland to surf! The great thing about surfing in Ireland is that it is super windy, which creates awesome waves. You can find a lot of places that are good for novices and experienced surfers, and one of the best is in the northwest of the island called Bundoran Beach.

Portugal

Portugal is a gorgeous, sweet little country with a perfect, laid back surfer vibe. Since the small country has a huge coastline, more than 1,000 miles, there are plenty of beaches to choose from up and down the coast to surf.

If you are looking for a spot that is better for beginners, head to Peninche unless it is October because there is also a big surf contest there every year!
