When you think of the great midwestern city of Chicago, Illinois, beaches probably are not the first thing that you would associate with it. However, the Windy City’s privileged location on the shores of Lake Michigan means that there are plenty of nice beaches to walk, swim, or work on your tan. Keep these three beaches in mind for your next trip to Chitown!

Montrose Beach

Chicago’s largest public beach is Montrose, located on a small peninsula connected to the Lincoln Park neighborhood north of downtown. Migratory birds and endangered plants find homes here, and on a sunny day, the view of Chicago’s skyline is second-to-none.

North Avenue Beach

Arguably the most popular beach in the city, North Avenue Beach is a favorite for families and sun-seekers during Chicago summers. Just a short walk from downtown and easily accessible by subway, there’s nothing more convenient than this sandy oasis.

Ohio Street Beach

Ohio Street Beach is a small, hidden paradise located hidden amongst the massive skyscrapers of downtown Chicago. Adjacent to a leafy public park, swimming is popular at this little-known gem where you can get the best of the lake and the city at once.
