In addition to being one of Egypt’s most beautiful cities, Alexandria is one of the best places to explore the country’s rich history. Museums are a good place to start your journey through Egypt’s ancient past while in Alexandria—especially these three.

Bibliotheca Alexandrina

Bibliotheca Alexandrina is the city’s no. 1 tourist attraction, but it’s more than just a library. This vast complex houses many other attractions on its premises, including four museums—Antiquities Museum, Manuscript Museum, Sadat Museum, and History of Science Museum.

Alexandria National Museum

The best place for exploring Egypt’s history through the ages, Alexandria National Museum is one of the city’s leading cultural institutions. It’s housed in the restored Italianate palace, and you can explore three floors covered with around 1,800 artifacts, ranging from the Pharaonic epoch to the Hellenistic and Roman periods.

Royal Jewelry Museum

If you have a soft spot for ancient jewelry, and the collections of regular museums aren’t impressive enough for your taste, how about visiting this one? Located in the former palace, this museum houses a collection of jewelry of the Muhammad Ali Dynasty, but you can also find 19th-century paintings, statues, and decorative pieces on its premises.
