About a hundred ocean baths can be found scattered all across New South Wales, and Newcastle is one of the best cities to explore them. This Australian city is home to quite a few ocean pools, and there’s a reason why they became such a huge hit with locals and tourists alike.

Visiting an ocean bath may seem strange when there’s an entire ocean to explore just around the corner, but they weren’t built on a whim. Ocean pools offer the pleasure of enjoying a good swim without the dangerous conditions of the actual ocean because there’s no fear of sharks, large waves, and rips.

Newcastle Ocean Baths opened its doors during the 1920s, and it’s best known for its Art Deco pavilion and beautiful views at Newcastle Beach. You can visit this spot all year round between 9 am and 5:30 pm, just make sure you’re not there on Wednesday because it’s the cleaning day.

This isn’t the only popular ocean pool in Newcastle—you can also check out Merewether Baths during your visit. This open-air swimming facility is located on the other side of the city, near Merewether beach, and it’s another top spot for a safe bath with beautiful ocean views.
