If you’ve ever attempted to take a nap at the airport during a layover, you’ll know that level 3 advanced math is probably easier to do. Falling asleep can be tricky at the best of times if you battle insomnia or the like, but doing so while traveling is especially difficult.

The discovery of white noise has been a game-changer for many people who struggle to sleep. There is a spectrum of audible sounds and white noise contains all frequencies. Similar to the sound of static on an untuned radio or television, white noise can drown out disturbing noises in your environment which threaten to wake you up.

Those who rely on white noise to catch some Z’s usually employ a white noise machine, but those are not always easy to lug around when traveling. Thankfully, your iPhone has an easy hack.

If you have an iPhone 6S or newer, and are running iOS 15 or above, you simply need to go to Settings, Accessibility, Accessibility Shortcut, and then select Background Sounds. This will enable you to triple-click the side button or home button to play white noise.

Try it next time you fancy taking a nap on an airplane.
