Cape Town is the legislative capital of South Africa and is also the second largest city in the country. Located on the southwest coast of the country, there is so much beauty in the natural and man-made surroundings of the region, but the city itself is also so full of life and culture. There is also a lot of history associated with the region, especially about the war against apartheid. So if you are ready to see some of the most impactful and special sights in the world start planning your visit to Cape Town.

What To Do

Table Mountain is a flat-topped mountain that has a great overlook of Cape Town. The hike up to the mountain is not very steep but still takes a few hours, but is easy enough for people without much experience in hiking. However, if you want the views but do not want to put in the physical effort, you can take a cable car up to the top.

If you are looking for some serious adventure, go sandboarding! Sandboarding is just gliding down sand dunes on a boogie board type board, and there are two great spots to do it within an hour of Cape Town, Atlantis or Betty’s Bay. These sand dunes can be over 100 feet tall, so it is completely worth the trip!

Robben Island is a must see place when you are in Cape Town because it is the island where Nelson Mandella was held as a prisoner trying to fight apartheid. Visitors can go to the island from one of the ferries from the waterfront of the city, and they come about 3 times a day. You will be given a tour of the prison on the island, and learn more about the 500-year-old history of it.

Dining And Drinks

Cape Town has some of the best wineries in the world because of its very fertile soil, which makes for extraordinary grapes. From these grapes come amazing wines, and there are so many different vineyards to visit you can easily try them all! If you want to enjoy an amazing meal right on the premise of a vineyard, go to Overture Restaurant in Hidden Valley Wine Estate.

Test Kitchen is probably the best known and most acclaimed restaurant in the country and happens to be in Cape Town. If you are looking for a meal that is a little out there and definitely experimental, make sure you book this meal well in advance.

If you want to enjoy a meal that is more typical to the region, look out for these foods. A Gatsby is an essential deli-style sandwich that is very well known in Cape Town. You can find it stuffed with french fries, meats, cheeses, or really anything under the sun.

A bit more of an interesting dish is called biltong, which is a salty dried meat almost like beef jerky, normally made from beef or kudu, but you can sometimes find it made from ostrich or even rhino!
