Known as the land of the Vikings, Scandinavia is full of amazing and interesting things you have probably never heard about. Learn more about this Northern European region.

  1. The term “Scandinavia” in local usage counts 3 kingdoms: Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. However, in English usage, the term refers to the Scandinavian Peninsula, which includes Finland and Iceland as well.
  2. During the Polar Nights of the Norwegian winter, the sun is up for only 3 hours a day, and in some parts, it doesn’t come out at all. However, in the summer, there is 24-hours of daylight.
  3. Denmark is the birthplace of Lego that was invented in Billund in 1932.
  4. Ikea and H&M are also Scandinavian brands, precisely Swedish.
  5. The tallest hill in Denmark is 170 m high.
  6. During Easter in Sweden, the kids dress up and go from house to house asking for candy.
  7. “Moose-crossing” sign is the most popular souvenir in Sweden.
  8. Finland is called “The Land of the 1,000 Lakes”. However, the country has more than 188,000 lakes with 98,000 small islands.
