Cactus Thiemann: Africa’s Largest and Most Picturesque Cactus Farm

Marrakesh attracts countless tourists every year with its colorful streets and traditional Moroccan cuisine, but one of its most stunning attractions is safely tucked away a couple of miles away from the bustling city center.

Cactus Thiemann is located in the backdrops of Marrakesh’s lunar landscape and it’s one of the largest cactus farms of the North African region. 150 cacti varieties cover 17 acre of land that this cactus nursery inhabits, giving this tiny part of the Moroccan desert a special charm.

Hans Thiemann, a German agricultural engineer who came to Morocco during the ‘50s, was the one who came up with the idea to start this farm. He sadly passed away in 2001, but his wife and daughters kept his legacy alive, and they’re running the farm to this day.

The number of visitors has been steadily increasing over the years, and there have been talks about opening a café on the property in the nearby future. Cactus Thiemann has surprisingly become a popular wedding venue and served as romantic backdrop for many young couples on their special day.
