Best Way to Visit Venice on a Budget

Venice is a luxurious city and if you’re traveling on a budget, the menu prices at some of the restaurants might trigger mini heart palpitations. Here’s our four-step guide to getting the most out of your trip without having to take out a second mortgage.

Waterbuses

Hiring a private water taxi will break the bank but you can buy a travel card for €25 which will last 3 days via vaporetti waterbuses. This will enable you to visit all of the islands and you’ll get to mingle with the locals.

Snacks > Meals

Instead of sitting down for an expensive sit-down meal at a restaurant, grab a snack on the go. You can pick up pastries and coffee very cheap from the counter of a pasticceria so make sure you fill up at breakfast. Throughout the day you can get by cheaply on one euro tapas at small bars that serve ciccheti. They’re not only cheap but are delicious and authentically Italian too.

Escape the city

Everything is cheaper once you leave the city centre. There are plenty of wonderful places surrounding Venice, such as Santa Croce, which is a very vibrant quarter. You can also check out the flea market in Dosoduro.

Hit the beach

Alberoni beach is a beautiful nature reserve. You can spend the day admiring the scenery and cool off with a swim in the sea and it won’t cost you a penny.
