]]>No one can deny the effects of climate change. Record high temperatures have been felt around the world, and there has been an increase in natural disasters. Sadly, it is only likely to get worse.
Travel accounts for 8% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, yet the sought-after landmarks on our bucket lists may not be what we know them as by 2050, if not sooner.
Researchers at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have predicted that the Moai statues could be lost at sea, while acid rain could damage the marble of the Acropolis in Athens.
To convey how real of a threat this is, Al Gore, who won a Nobel Peace Prize for his climate change activism, used artificial intelligence to illustrate what would happen to beloved landmarks. The result is not pretty.
Roads in California will be on fire, the Pyramids will be destroyed by acid rain, Central Park will be flooded, as will most of London.
The consequences are scary, which is why taking action against global warming is urgent.

]]>“Ocean view” and “oceanfront” may sound the same, but they are not. Ocean view means that, yes, you will be able to see some of the sea from your window. How much, however, is up for debate… In contrast, an oceanfront room is facing the water head-on.
At the end of the day, nice things usually come with a price tag… Taking a look at the price of the room you’re booking is a good indicator for what you will be getting. Expect an oceanfront room to cost more than an ocean view.
If you are still unsure about which room to reserve, we recommend calling the hotel itself. After all, no one knows the rooms better than them. Explain what kind of room you’re looking for, and, you never know, sometimes they even have special deals.

]]>Magnesium, lithium, and sulfur are all minerals that help our bodies to function at their best. And they can all be found in a freshwater lake hidden amid the mangroves in Bimini. Accessible only by boat, it is called the Healing Hole. The name says it all, doesn’t it?
At more than 1,400 feet below sea level, the Dead Sea—or Sea of Salt, as it is known by the locals—is the lowest place on earth. Almost ten times saltier than the ocean, it is possible to float in its waters which are known to relieve arthritis and muscle aches. The mud from the Dead Sea is also fantastic for skin conditions like psoriasis. One piece of advice, though: don’t go in the water if you have a cut as all that salt will make it sting!
The Japanese have a concept called shinrin-yoku, AKA “forest bathing”. It involves relaxing in a forest, with none of life’s daily distractions, for the sake of one’s wellness. The forest on Yakushima Island is the perfect place to stroll and just forget about the world. With its breathtaking waterfalls and collection of cedar trees (including the oldest and largest one in the world), it is easy to understand why it served as the inspiration for Princess Mononoke.

Hop on the San Diego Beer Train Trolley Tour or explore the downtown brewery scene in a vintage safari vehicle. If you’re in the mood for something a little different, pay a visit to Border X Brewing where you can sample a spicy chocolate stout.
No beercation list would be complete without Grand Rapids which has earned the name “Beer City”. Founders Brewery is a must-see. Set in a former truck depot, the brewery is modeled after a German beer hall and offers a wide selection of seasonal and year-round beers.
There are around 150 breweries in Denver, making it a big player in the craft beer game. There are also a variety of tours to choose from, including the Lower Downtown Denver Craft Beer Tour which features a historical walking tour, and the Rino Beer and Graffiti where you can check out the city’s street art scene.

Head to the airline’s desk at the airport or call their customer service line. They will be able to give you information about your options. They may be able to put you on a later flight or provide you with a voucher for food and accommodation if necessary.
The best way to turn a negative experience around is to look for the positives in it. You now have time on your hands, so why not explore the airport? Most feature a variety of restaurants and shops, but there are some that even have movie theaters and gyms.

Those fascinated by the history have been able to gaze down on the square from above, but have never had access to the actual site. Until now.
Jewelry brand, Bulgari, helped to fund a new series of walkways that will enable visitors to be right in the thick of it. The paths will provide access for both wheelchairs and strollers, with tourists being able to descend via a staircase or elevator platform.
“Happy to be able to give back to the Romans and tourists the Sacred Area of Largo Argentina in all its beauty,” said Mayor Roberto Gualtieri. “Through elevated walkways, visitors can literally immerse themselves in History.”
The ruins have been described as a “precious jewel made of history, art and culture,” nestled in the heart of Rome.
Tickets are open to the public, with general admission costing five euros.

]]>In 2016, I Love Paris was named as the best airport restaurant in the world at the Airport Food and Beverage Awards (yes, that’s a thing). Seven years later, we’re still in love. Found in Terminal 2E, one can expect French cuisine made with seasonal ingredients and champagne that might be worth missing your flight for.
Every Italian restaurant thinks they can make Italian food, but real foodies know that’s not true. Cotto at La Guardia Airport does justice to the cuisine, with their garganelli with radicchio, speck, and truffle butter even being recommended in the Michelin Guide.
Changi Airport alone is worth paying a visit to. Often named the best airport in the world thanks to its stunning architecture, climbing wall, and butterfly garden. Another feature is certainly Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant, The Kitchen. Expect a menu filled with top-quality Asian fusion dishes.

]]>It was way back in 2001 that the chatty sidekick told his ogre friend, “We can stay up late, swapping manly stories, and in the morning, I’m making waffles!” And now, 22 years later, Airbnb is giving you the chance to taste Donkey’s cooking.
The home-sharing platform is offering up to three people the opportunity to spend a weekend at Shrek’s Swamp in the hills of the Scottish Highlands. Covered in mud and moss, the spot once served as a safe haven for exiled fairytale creatures.
“Shrek’s Swamp is lovely. Just beautiful. The perfect place to entertain guests,” claims Donkey, who is hosting the stay. “You know what I like about it? Everything. The overgrown landscaping, the modest interiors, the nice boulders, all of it. I can’t wait for guests to experience this muddy slice of paradise for themselves.”
That experience will also include swapping stories around the fire, chilling in earwax candlelight, and enjoying some parfait. And, of course, don’t forget about the waffles!
The magical stay is scheduled for October 27 to 29, and won’t cost you a thing. Bookings open on October 13 at 6 PM (BST).

]]>Hosts have increased their rates, and some guests have reported being given chores to perform like stripping beds and taking out the trash. The combination has led many travelers to consider staying in hotels instead, believing it provides a better, less expensive experience. Airbnb’s co-founder and current CEO, Brian Chesky, has said that hosts should be realistic when setting their prices.
“We want prices to move and to be more competitive vis-à-vis hotels — that is really important,” he said. “When our hosts provide better deals, they tend to make more money.”
Chesky recommends that hosts take a look at the going rate for hotels in their area “so they have a sense of what travelers are getting on other platforms.”
Guests will now also be able to see the exact amount they will be paying when scanning prices. Previously, Airbnb had excluded taxes and cleaning fees on the given rate, leaving some with a rude awakening just before clocking “confirm”. In a bid to be more transparent, all fees will now be included in the price shown.
