]]>Run by Seaworld and right by Tampa, Adventure island has lots of awesome slides and rides. On the four-lane Riptide slide, you can even race your friends or family down to the bottom. This park is closed in the winter, but that still leaves you seven months out of the year to check out their VR snorkeling and much more.
At the huge LEGOLAND Florida resort, the waterpark is one of the main attractions with lots of Lego-themed rides and slides. That makes it especially good for younger kids, who can play in the interactive play area or, if they’re a little older, build their own raft to ride on.
Run by Walt Disney World in Bay Lake near Orlando, this waterpark has a VERY unique (and possibly counterintuitive) theme: ski lodge! You can rent a private “polar patio” (much like a private lodge) and go down one of the biggest body slides in the world, Summit Plummet.

]]>In Cambridge, right in the heart of Harvard Square, you’ll find the one-screen indie Brattle Theatre. This theatre is super cute and has double features of old movies every Sunday, regularly shows films from independent artists often with the makers of the films in attendance, and even hosts several-day film festivals such as the Women in Comedy Festival and the LGBT Film Festival.
Situated in an old church, the Coolidge Corner Theatre has been operating as a theatre since 1933. It also shows independent and older movies and has several smaller screening rooms in addition to its larger screen. Some of its rooms even have armchairs for a more comfortable, cozy experience!
In Somerville’s bustling Davis Square is the over-100-year-old Somerville Theatre. This theatre hosted vaudeville and other live acts in its heyday, and now has several screens including a rentable one where it shows indie and art house cinema. It also continues to host live shows and concerts.

]]>On the island of Nova Scotia lies Sugar Moon Farm, which has a phenomenal restaurant using plenty of local ingredients and coffee, and of course, lots of their own maple syrup. They have group menus, brunch, takeout, and even an intimate after-hours dinner.
Not only does Temple’s include a beautiful old-fashioned venue for resting and eating at their pancake house, but they also host weddings! Their pancake house has a full breakfast menu where you can enjoy the local syrup and the lovely forest, and you can keep them in mind for your next big event.
As the brainchild of a local celebrity chef, this sugar farm restaurant is a whole dining experience with several-course meals all heavily featuring maple. It’s a bit fancier (so slightly pricy, but not crazy) than the more diner-esque restaurants of most sugar farms, so it’s a great option for a nice evening out on a special occasion. You may have to google-translate the menu from French, though!

]]>Great is exactly what this pumpkin patch is, with hundreds of varieties of squashes and gourds originating from all over the world growing there. Grown from a 19th-century homestead, the Great Pumpkin Patch has lots of things to pick along with mazes, gardens, and a shop.
Leeds farm is great for the whole family, with fun activities like zip lines, slides, and hayrides for the kids and lots of pumpkin varieties for the adults (especially those with an interest in agriculture).
With its vast 400 acres and extremely cheap pumpkin price, Vala’s Pumpkin Patch is perfect for a day of exploration and slow, careful pumpkin picking across its expanse. They’ve also got, interestingly, pig races to watch and delicious caramel apples to enjoy.

]]>This museum with the world’s largest collection of naturally-created mummies on display is in Guanajuato, Mexico. Decades ago, local laws resulted in the exhuming of hundreds of bodies which, upon exhumation, were discovered to have been naturally mummified due to the arid climate. Many of the most well-preserved are now on display behind glass at this museum.
Most people, at some point in their lives, have heard of the disastrous nuclear power explosion at Chernobyl which sent out waves of intense radiation, causing rampant death and illness and creating international fear of nuclear power. Well, it’s been decades since then, and the radiation has finally mostly dissipated … which means the site is now open to tours.
In Kutna Hora in the CR, there’s an ossuary (which is basically a storage site for bones) that is decorated with thousands of skeletons. Unfortunately photography there is no longer allowed, but you can still go see it for yourself if you love the macabre.

]]>Dreamboy tells a story with touches of horror, fantasy, surreality, and romance. Two original albums with music from the show are available for purchase. It uses a first-person narrator, mood and background music, in-world music, and sound effects to keep you within the story and completely on the edge of your driver’s seat the whole time. Do keep in mind, this podcast uses explicit language and has adult themes, so only listen if you don’t have kids in the car.
Gaslight uses voice actors and heavy sound production to not only immerse you in its world but to give you an uncomfortable and claustrophobic feeling. It creates a mood much like an indie filmmaker might create onscreen. It also features famous actress Chloë Grace Moretz in the role of its titular character. If you want a podcast that you can binge entirely on one drive, then this is a great choice.
It Makes a Sound is a fictional podcast within a real podcast. It follows a woman who comes back to her childhood home to care for her mother, where she discovers remnants of a boy she remembers as a brilliant musician. With her mother and a ten-year-old she babysits in tow, she searches for his lost music, documenting it in her own fictional podcast. In the real podcast, we hear all of the background noise, her inner thoughts, and her “real life” that don’t make it into her podcast. Like Dreamboy, there is a separate album of music available which “belongs” to the lost musician. The podcast starts out a little slow but picks up as it goes on.

]]>Budapest is a common tourist destination for young people as it has a great party scene and isn’t very expensive. It’s also got plenty of awesome religious architecture, such as St. Stephen’s Basilica. This church, with its iconic dome, is over 100 years old. It’s still used today for Roman Catholic worship, but it’s also a common spot for tourists.
This architectural mammoth is truly a sight to behold. With its soaring gold-encrusted domes and beautifully wrought facade, it’s one of the loveliest things you’ll see on your trip. It’s now a Russian-Orthodox church, so you can attend a service there if you wish. In the past, it functioned as a movie theatre and a naval museum as well.
This church is truly a relic of history, with construction beginning in the 13th century. The structure wasn’t completed until the 19th century, and frescoes from medieval times along with old gothic architecture are still on display. You don’t want to miss this church, as it’s also a world heritage site to boot.

]]>Named after Lecce where it originated and continues to be most available, Caffe Leccese is a coffee drink perfect for the summer heat. It’s an espresso poured over ice, with a special almond milk syrup layered beneath. Mixed together, it’s perfectly cool and sweet. If you visit Avio Bar, which belongs to the family who invented the drink, you’ll find an even better version of it with a layer of creamy shaken espresso.
When you order your Caffe Leccese, you should absolutely pair it with a Pasticciotto. This custard-filled treat also originates in Lecce, and is often eaten for breakfast alongside coffee. Its original purpose was to use up leftover cake batter, so the pastry is cakey and crumbly with a perfect caramelized crustiness on the outside.
Negroamaro and Primitivo are two wine grapes native to the Puglia region. They are most commonly and successfully grown there due to the climate and have been associated with the area for nearly a thousand years. They are both delicious dark red wines that are worth trying while you’re closest to their origins.

]]>Denmark has been rated the happiest country in the world, but Danish people aren’t particularly chipper. Interestingly, many say that people are so happy because their expectations are so low. Despite this, people are very friendly and speak very good English.
However, Danes also pride themselves on being very direct. If they tell you something that would be rude in another country such as America, keep in mind that they aren’t saying it maliciously.
Finally, Danes value their personal space and privacy. When you pass someone on the street, the polite thing to do is not to make eye contact. Similarly, on the train or bus, indicate that you need someone to move by shuffling around or starting to get up from your seat–they’ll get up without any conversation needing to happen. Even more importantly, keep an eye out for the person next to you or behind you indicating that they need you to get up to let them off at the next stop.

]]>Matera has one of the longest continuous inhabitancies in the world, with evidence of population even 7000 years ago. There, you can see the prehistoric caves where Italy’s ancestors lived.
Interestingly, Matera was an infamous slum until only 70 years ago and residents were still living in caves made up like houses. The very poor population there lived without modern amenities until a book brought attention to their conditions and things improved.
The most famous and beautiful part of Matera is the Sassi, which is the area of the ancient city with its winding streets and overlapping houses. Many Italians like to walk among the Sassi, getting lost in its stone alleyways and snapping photos along the way. If you want to feel like a part of the country, this is a great place to visit.
