If you are visiting Perth Australia for the first time, you may have a hard time choosing whether to stay. After all, it’s a pretty big place. Staying in the CBD is fun for a while but unless you are a major city lover, you will find far more benefits from staying in the sunny town of Freemantle. Here’s why.

It’s Cheaper

First up, Freemantle is outside the city and so accommodation is going to be cheaper. We recommend getting an Air BnB if you want to experience local Perth life. There’s also a hostel inside the prison if you want to experience something a little more unique. Don’t worry, they let you out after.

It’s Right Next to Rottnest

If you are heading to Perth, a visit to Rottnest Island is a must. It’s a beautiful destination and more importantly, it is home to the quokkas. These adorable animals have big smiles and love taking selfies. You can access it via the Freemantle ferry terminal in less than half an hour.

It Has Great Links To The City

If you do want to head to the CBD, you are just an hour tops away on the train. Transport in Perth is extremely efficient and you won’t have to wait around during changeovers. A day travel card is also pretty cheap, so if you want to travel around the city, visiting from Freemantle won’t set you back.

The Sunday Markets

The Freemantle markets are something special. On the weekend, they are filled with charming stalls, live music, and art installations. Many of the stalls sell innovative gadgets so if you want to bring back something more original than your standard souvenir, hit up the markets.

It’s Close to Cottesloe Beach

Cottesloe Beach is one of the best beaches along the west coast. It boasts clear blue waters and soft white sands that stretch all the way into the ocean. If you do go for a swim, there will be no need for swim shoes. There’s also a shark barrier so if you are nervous about the Australian waters, you can be confident nothing unwanted will disturb you.
