Heading East of Europe? Here are five reasons you should consider adding Zagreb, Croatia to your to-do list.
Its Unique Museums
Zagreb is the home of several museums, including your standard museums of science and natural history. It also contains several that are a little more out of the ordinary. For example, if you head to the city center you can visit the Museum of Broken Relationships, which contains objects of failed love affairs from around the world. You can also check out the 80’s museum which is an intact house from the 80s with a twist. Instead of demanding you ‘do not touch’ the exhibits, you are invited to interact with everything and can even try on the clothes! The Museum of Illusions is also fabulously unique and a fun way to spend the afternoon.
Its Thriving Street Art
Zagreb artistic and creative personality can be observed on the surface via its vibrant street art. You can visit the Tesla mural which celebrates the achievements of the inventor born in Croatia, as well as several other colorful murals around the city.
It’s Close to Plitvice Lakes
The Plitvice Lakes make up a stunning national park which you simply must visit if you are in Croatia. With clear blue lakes and impressive waterfalls, the lakes are definitely one of the best natural spots you can visit in Europe. It’s also only a two-hour bus ride from Zagreb.
It’s Cheap!
There are currently 0.13 Croatian Kunas to the Euro. This means that you can eat out and dine in for quite cheap. The public tram from the city bus station to the city centre is only the equivalent of 50 cents if you buy on board.
The People
The locals in Zagreb are friendly and welcoming of tourists. Crime in Zagreb is relatively low and it is one of the safest cities to visit if you are a solo, female traveller.
