While many people honeymoon in Maui, Hawaii as it’s known for its tranquil beaches and outdoor activities, the second largest island in the state has a ton of unique experiences that shouldn’t be missed. Beyond the beaches here are four unique adventures to have in the Valley Isle.

Haleakalā National Park

Backpack or day-hike through the volcanic landscape or stay overnight within the crater of the Haleakalāat, a massive shield volcano, at this national park. View native plants and animals while seeing the sunrise or sunset at nearly 10,000 feet above sea level.

ʻĪao Valley State Monument

This 4,000-acre state park is home to the 1,200-feet high ʻĪao Needle, a volcanic rock outcropping that towers over waterfalls at ʻĪao Stream. While there walk through one of Hawaii’s most famous ancient battlefields from the Battle of Kepaniwai, which took place in 1790.

Peʻahi

Look but don’t get too close to Peʻahi, also known as Jaws, which is known for its massive wintertime swells. Top athletes head here each winter for the Red Bull-sponsored big wave contest.
