Tirana probably isn’t the first city that comes to mind when someone mentions modern architecture, but it’s home to quite a few amazing contemporary buildings. If you want to fully immerse into the modern architecture of the Albanian capital, make sure to check out these three spots during your visit.

Pyramid of Tirana

The Pyramid of Tirana is one of the city’s most recognizable attractions and most significant architectural marvels. When it first opened its doors in 1988, it was called Enver Hoxha Museum and celebrated the legacy of the leader it was named after, but it now serves as a conference center.

Reja – The Cloud

One of Tirana’s most Instagram-friendly spots is located just outside the museum the city’s National Art Gallery and it serves as its art pavilion. This transparent, three-dimensional structure was composed of fine steel bars, and it’s the work of art of the famed Japanese artist Sou Fujimoto.

TID Tower

Clearly visible from the majority of Tirana’s focal points, TID Tower does a great job capturing the Mediterranean light and it’s truly a sight to behold. As the building rises, its elliptic shape turns into a rectangle at the top and its fine-meshed panels are impossible to miss.
