Langkawi, an archipelago of 99 enchanting islands, has become a top destination in Malaysia in the past two decades. The islands are recognizable by the ageless sight of water buffaloes grazing, sun-bathed beaches, the delicious aromas of street food shops and as of lately, fabulous world-class resorts.

Although you would need many weeks to try out all the amazing experiences that Langkawi offers, here are three essential activities you shouldn’t pass on!

Ride the cable car

Langkawi’s cable car is inarguably the most popular thing to do on the main island.

The 15-minute ride, which leaves from the picturesque Oriental Village, takes you to the top of Mat Cincang Mountain where you can enjoy stunning views of the island while sun-bathing in some of its small cafes and platforms.

Island Hopping

With only a few of the islands being inhabited, island-hopping excursions in the archipelago are very unique experiences.

The tours include visiting exotic mangroves, caves, rainforests, and lagoons, swimming in scenic freshwater lakes, paddle boating, snorkeling and simply lounging in the wonderful scenery.

Visit the Telega Tujun Waterfalls

These majestic waterfalls, which name means seven pools in Malay, appear in many fairytales popular among the locals.

They are made up of seven natural pools that are filled by different cataracts spreading down from Mat Cincanag.
