#1 Toledo

This central-Spain city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its history as a cultural hub.

For the art lovers, visit the El Greco House Museum to see works by the master who was a resident of the city. For the history buffs, don’t miss the Alcázar, a fortress built at Franco’s time overlooking the city and the river. Now home to a military museum focused on the nation’s history.

#2 Aranjuez

The full name is The Royal Palace of Aranjuez and it is a well kept colorful palace with glorious gardens.

A visit to the palace includes a throne room packed with royal artifacts and the large boulevards, atypical for Spanish town, but fit for a royal visit.

Pop into any of the local restaurants and have Carne de caza (game food).

#3 Ávila

A walled city located about 100KM from Madrid, Avila is a real historical treasure.

Walk along the impressive medieval wall to see any of the 80 towers and nine gates. Don’t miss the Convento de Santa Teresa, dedicated to the city’s saint.
