If you’re not a huge fan of warm temperatures, Alaska is probably your dream summer destination. Anchorage is a good place to start exploring this state, and here’s a couple of amazing glaciers that are located in close proximity to this city.

Portage Glacier

Located within the Chugach National Forest, this glacier is the closest to Alaska’s most populated city. A day trip to Portage Glacier from Anchorage is a must for all nature lovers, and it doesn’t hurt that it’s located south of the equally stunning Portage Lake.

Knik Glacier

This is one of the largest glaciers in southcentral Alaska, and it became pretty popular with tourists over the years. It’s located just 50 miles east of Anchorage, so it’s impossible to miss if you decide to explore the city’s surroundings.

Matanuska Glacier

Matanuska Glacier is a little bit more difficult to reach since you’ll have to drive 100 miles north-east of Anchorage, but it’s worth it. This is the largest glacier accessible by car in the United States, and it will certainly take your breath away.
