Summer is the time when everybody wants to fly. The weather is good, school is out, and people have more vacation time. As the summer gets closer, prices seem to get higher, so when is the best time to book a summer vacation flight?

Studies have shown that the cheapest months are January and February. In March prices tend to go up, and by April flights can go up by almost 50% of what they were the month before.

Ironically enough, mid-January to the end of February are the cheapest months to travel as well, as this is known as the “dead zone”, the time after Christmas and New Years but before spring. In the fall, mid-September to October are the cheapest months, although slightly behind January and February.

To sum it up, if you have a flexible schedule and are willing to fly on odd months then your chances to find a cheap ticket go up. If you are booking an international flight for the summer then book it before April for the best price!
