What to Do if You’re Mistreated by Your Airline

One of the hardest things about traveling is the fact that things don’t always work out the way you intend. It would be nice if you just showed up to the airport, hopped on your flight, and everything goes off without a hitch—but it doesn’t always work out that way. Airlines can cancel your flight at the last minute, replace your seat with someone else’s (yes, it actually happens!), and many other things. Unfortunately, airlines don’t always rectify these injustices, so here’s what you should do if that happens.

Call and Email Them

Plan A, although it doesn’t always work, can be helpful if you’re persistent enough. Airlines won’t go out of their way to help you, no matter how much you deserve it. Call their customer service lines, email them, do everything you need to do and be firm about it. You can still be respectful while being adamant about your position. It’s annoying to do, but you may just get a solid re-compensation with the proper steps.

Threaten to Ramp Things Up

Only after you’ve done everything you can and none of it worked, then you can ramp things up. Even if it goes against your personality, it’s okay to be a little bit rude and show your teeth a little bit. Threaten to post about what they did on social media, and if that doesn’t wake them up, actually follow through with it. If you make enough traction with your post, they’ll cave in no time.
