So, you’ve gone to a low-cost airline’s website, found a cheap flight from your city to some unknown destination that you’ve never visited before. The pictures of this city look beautiful, the hotels aren’t too expensive, and you’re looking to get away.

You book the flight, and you’re ready to travel!

Fast-forward to three months in the future, when you’re about to board your flight. What if you realized that you never did any research about the city you visited. Is this going to be a wasted vacation?!

Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be. Nearly all cities with any type of tourist tradition offer tours of their historic centers and their most important sights for visitors to see. These walking tours are a fantastic way to get an overview of the must-see spots at your destination, and it does the majority of your prep work for you!

Instead of desperating flipping through a tourist attraction book or a website before arriving at your destination, I recommend booking a city walking tour instead. It’s best to do it at the beginning of your trip in order to get oriented and have a feel for the city.

They’re inexpensive, informative, and a fantastic resource for smart tourism. Take advantage of walking tours!
