Formerly known as Ceylon, Sri Lanka is the “tear of India” because of its shape. It is located south of India and is surrounded by the Indian Ocean.

Sri Lanka is an island of greenery, tropical forests, rivers, waterfalls, mountains, botanical gardens, tea plantations, cinnamon islands and beautiful beaches with golden sand.

The capital city is Colombo, and the best time to visit it is in May, during a major Buddhist holiday

There are many cultural and historical monuments which you have to see, such as the most famous Temple of the Buddha’s Tooth, the cave temples of Dambulla, the Lion-sten (Sigiriya), as well as many statues of Buddha, especially the ones which stand out with their size.

Among the fun things to do in Sri Lanka, you can visit the Moon Stone Mine, go on a safari to one of the national parks, pet the elephants on the Elephant Reserves or have the best food you will ever have. If you are brave enough, try the spicy version!
