Italy undoubtedly has no shortage of charming cities, villages, monuments, and the like to visit, but this week, we’re going to focus on the famous city on the water: Venice. Venice is renowned for its romantic boat rides through canals and is one of the most popular places in the country for tourism. However, use this guide to get a taste of life like a local Venetian rather than falling into typical tourist traps.

When to go:

There’s no real wrong time to visit Venice, but we suggest going once the summer ends, around September through November, in order to avoid the high tourist season. If you’re okay to brave the cold, then winter is an ideal, quieter time in Venice. As far as weather is concerned, however, if you’re looking for optimal weather, then late spring is your best bet.

Where to visit:

Casa dei Tre Oci

“House of Three Eyes” is famous for its rounded lagoon-facing windows; contemporary photography is on display here.
