Vegan Beat: the Best Place to Enjoy Vegan Greek Food in Athens

Being vegan in Athens can be tricky. If you’re browsing for street food in Placa or even Monistaraki market, you’ll find a lot of meat and cheeses, but not much choice when it comes to vegan options.

Tucked away in a corner near Monistaraki Metro, however, you will find Vegan Beat. The cafe style restaurant is small but comfortable. There isn’t a huge choice of seating but if you sit by the window, you can see the columns of the Parthenon through the trees. The staff is friendly and proud of their creation. If you ask for recommendations, they will respond passionately and it is obvious that they take pride in what they do.

Considering they have only been open for seven months, the menu has a reasonable selection of choices. Someone in the restaurant is enjoying a Greek mushroom gyros which smells incredible, so we ordered that. We also order a Veggie Ball tortilla and the cheesecake and chili chocolate mouse for dessert.

I can honestly say that the mushroom gyros blew me away. The flavors complimented each other beautifully and it was entirely authentic. The cheesecake was also remarkable. In all my travels, I have not yet managed to find a dairy-free cheesecake and was delighted to finally enjoy the treat I miss the most.

Overall, my experience at the restaurant was wonderful and whether you are vegan, vegetarian or just a big fan of flavor, Vegan Beat is the place to go. The prices are also very reasonable so it is perfect if you want to grab a bite to eat on the move. You won’t find much better in terms of value, atmosphere, and deliciousness in the center of Athens.
