Hostels are a really fun environment where you can meet locals and travelers alike, all in a fun and exciting city or town. Most hostels are just as nice as a hotel nowadays, and if you don’t mind sharing some spaces, they’re just perfect. Even still, there are a few items you should bring from home to make sure your stay goes off without a hitch.

Combination Lock

Nearly every hostel has lockers or closets where you can put your valuables. However, don’t pay the fee once you get there for a lock, bring your own from home and it’ll save you some money.

Flip Flops

Communal showers are totally safe, but getting in and out and back to your room can get a little unhygienic. Instead, bring a thin pair of flip flops for you to use during your stay.

Pillow Case

To be on the safer side, it is never a bad idea to bring a pillowcase from home. Most hotels do not even change their pillowcases, so just in case your hostel does not prioritize changing pillow cases between stays, bring your own. Pillowcases are also really thin so they won’t take up extra room in your luggage.
