This is How People Celebrate New Years’ Eve Around the World!

New Year’s Eve is celebrated so differently around the world, so if you’re looking for a new tradition to start this year, try out one of these!

Spain

To represent the new 12 months that are about to come, people in Spain eat 12 grapes and make a wish with each one right after the clock strikes 12. There are other Latin countries that do this as well!

Central and South America

In most countries in Central and South America, people think about what they’re going to wear underneath their clothes more than their actual New Years’ Eve outfits. The color of underwear you choose to wear on New Years’ Eve is said to be an important representation of what you want to happen in the year to come. Red for love, yellow for money, and beyond.

Philippines

Polka dots might be a cute fabric for a costume but in the Philippines, it’s serious business! All types of circles are important to people in the Philippines on New Years’ Eve because it represents prosperity in the new year. Wearing polka dots is supposed to help you get more prosperity, and often people will have 12 round fruits out on a table for the new year as well.
