More than 30,000 people try to climb Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Europe, each year. But not all of them make it to the top. Despite not being considered a difficult ascent, Mont Blanc still offers plenty of challenges even some expert climbers can’t solve. Here is what you need to know if you are thinking about climbing Mont Blanc anytime soon.

Excellent Fitness Level is Required

Mont Blanc isn’t a demanding climb from a technical standpoint. But in order to pull it off, you will need to be at an excellent fitness level. Most people start training months prior to attempting the ascent and you’ll want to do the same.

Best Time to Climb is July and August

Climbing season at Mont Blanc stretches between May and September. But the best time to try it is July and August. The weather is most reliable in this period, and you might face fewer unforeseen challenges.

Gouter Route Gives You the Best Chance for Success

There are two main routes climbers use to reach Mount Everest summit: Gouter and Trois Monts. Out of the two, the Gouter route is considered the safer one and has a bigger rate of success.

You’ll Need 3 Days to Complete the Climb

Trained climbers have been known to go up and down Mont Blanc in one day. However, that isn’t something you would want to try. Most climbers reach the first stop on Day 1, get to the summit on Day 2, and then descend on the third day.
