These Are the Biggest European Carnivals

February and March are known as carnival months in Europe and there are plenty of carnivals with a long tradition you can visit this year. Most of Western Europe keeps the carnival tradition alive, but some carnivals are bigger than others. Here are three of our favorites that we’re looking forward to every time.

Venice Carnival

Almost every tourist who visits Venice goes home with at least one of the legendary carnival masks that have become the symbol of the city. The Venice Carnival is among the most famous carnivals in the world. Hurry up to join the fun – it lasts from February 8th to 25th this year.

Cologne Carnival

There are numerous carnivals around Germany this time of the year, but we picked the one in Cologne because it’s one of the oldest and biggest ones. It’s scheduled for February 20-26th this year and during that week bars and pubs will work 24/7.

Nice Carnival

French have their own big carnival held in Nice every year. It lasts from February 15th to 29th this year and it offers you a perfect opportunity to explore the French Riviera.
