Being on a budget shouldn’t mean you have to vacation somewhere dull or close to home. These are the best cities to take an exciting trip without having to dig into your emergency savings.

Memphis, Tennessee

Memphis is the home of the blues. It has a rich musical history and a whole bunch of nightlife and live-music venues as a result. Hotel prices start at around $20 a night and travel expenses are cheaper too.

Denver, Colorado

Denver offers the best of both worlds when it comes to exciting city life and fantastic nature. The best way to visit on a budget is to stay in hostels, which start at around $19 a night.

San Diego, California

San Diego is a lot more affordable than Los Angeles and San Francisco. It’s sunny all year round and you can bag a night at a hotel for $20 a night. Travel around the city is also very reasonable.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Philadelphia is significantly cheaper than New York but there’s still a lot to do. Prices for hotels and hostels are fairly reasonable but you will be spoiled for choice when it comes to the city’s attractions.

New Orleans, Louisianna

Hotel rooms are a little more costly in New Orleans but everything else is reasonable. You can use any streetcar multiple times in a day for $3 and if you don’t fancy going to a venue, there are tonnes of talented street performers.
