The Temporary Island: Visit the Magical Mont Saint Michel

One of the most interesting places that you can visit while exploring is the mysterious island of Mont Saint Michel. This miraculous landmark lies just a few hundred meters from the coast of Lower Normandy in the north of France.

The tides of the sea make Mont Saint Michel unique. When the tides rise, this beautiful mount becomes an island, but when the tides fall again, the island becomes an in-land castle surrounded by grasslands full of sheep. This phenomenon makes the place truly magical and like no other in the world.

Mount Saint Michel was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1979.

There is a wooden bridge by which you can approach the castle. On the island, there is, of course, the famous Abbey of Mont Saint Michel that you must visit. The island also has beautiful small walking streets that are truly magical.

Additionally, the island offers great cafes and restaurants with beautiful views. The specialty of the island is Omelette and Agneau de pre-sale which is a lamb dish made from sheep that were raised in the salt marshes around the island – a fully local specialty that can only be found there.
