Colmar, this charming old-centered city is located in northeastern France, near the border of Germany. It’s a true picture-and-postcard town that’s overflowing with half-timbered, medieval and Renaissance buildings, as well as cobblestones streets.

What makes Colmar most specific are those painted houses in various colors. Just walking around will leave you captivated by a colorful mix of German and French architecture. There is a story behind this, that each color represents a different type of business – so if you were a fisherman, for example, your house would be blue.

The most picturesque area is Little Venice – the inevitable spot that everyone favors and never leaves without snapping a series of pictures of. Also, you’ll be able to admire a replica of the Statue of Liberty built by her creator Auguste Bartholdi who was born in Colmar.

Colmar is also the capital of Alsace wines, and if you are a wine lover, this is the place where you have to do a proper tasting. Most of the Alsace wine is white, like Riesling, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Gewurztraminer alongside the local sparkling wine called Cremant d’Alsace.

This enchanting city should be on your list!
