The Andaman Islands Are The Ultimate Beach Trip

The Andaman archipelago consists of 572 islands strung between India and Thailand, only 36 of which are inhabited, that are famed for their wild, untouched, almost-unreal beauty.

The flora of the islands consists of primeval jungles surrounded by sunny white-sanded beaches and gorgeous turquoise waters. Havelock, or Swaraj, is the most popular island due to its spectacular beaches and diving spots.

At about 620 miles from the mainland, the Andaman and neighboring Nicobar islands, where foreign visitors are not allowed at all, are in fact the peaks of a submerged mountain range that runs from Myanmar to Indonesia.

A big part of the Andamans is also off-limits to tourists in order to protect its bio-diversity as well as preserve the culture of the indigenous tribes of hunter-gatherers that still live there. The population, a mere 380,000 people, is a mix of South and Southeast Asian immigrants and Negrito ethnic groups.

Those who have experienced the bold, exotic charm of the islands describe them as the perfect remote island getaway with amazing beaches, crystal-clear water, incredibly colorful coral reefs, and tropical forests.

In March, the archipelago got its first five-star resort, Taj Exotica, which consists of 72 elegant villas, a 50-meter infinity pool, and three high-end restaurants.
