If you’re into mountains, or mountaineering, or high cliffs, or simply standing on top of the world, you probably have thought a great deal about which mountains are the tallest. Heck, you probably already know the answer, because the tallest mountain in the world is quite famous. However, today we’re going to discuss the top three, so strap on your crampons and let’s start the ascent!

3. Kangchenjunga —28,169 Feet

Kangchenjunga was actually considered to be the highest mountain in the mountain until 1852. However, after a few miscalculations were brought to the forefront, it was proven that it was actually the third tallest. Nevertheless, it’s still one of the most visited and climbed mountains in the world.

2. K2 — 28,251 Feet

Interestingly enough, there are some who believe that K2 is actually harder to climb than Mount Everest, even though it’s not as high. According to expert climbers, the level of trickiness is off the charts, and only the best of the best are able to do the deed.

1. Mount Everest — 29,029 Feet

Is there a more iconic mountain in the world of mountaineering? The tallest in the world, it was first climbed by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary back in 1953. As the decades went on, it became more and more common for folks to learn how to climb it. By the 90s, there were full-on mountaineering groups guiding amateur climbers up and down the mountain. To this day, and regardless of how dangerous it is, people still climb it every year.
