For international travelers, your passport is the number one most important thing that you must protect while traveling. Losing a passport or having it damaged could result in a major travel headache, something that no one wants to experience.

So, what steps can you take towards keeping your passport safe? Here are three useful tips that can help.

Buy a Nice Cover

Passports are surprisingly flimsy for being such an important document. One way to add an extra layer of protection that will help it from being torn or ripped is a nice cover that will protect its exterior. These are available in all kinds of materials, but leather is my favorite.

Keep It in a Secret Location

Traveling with a passport can be nerve-wracking because it is a prime target for thieves to try to steal. Keep your passport, whether it’s physically on you or not, in a top-secret location that cannot be easily found by would-be robbers.

Don’t Let the Elements Ruin It

A rainstorm, a snowstorm, or extreme hot weather can be the death of an otherwise safe passport. Don’t allow your passport to be exposed to extreme conditions, which can lead to the RFID chip and pages of your passport to be ruined.

Have you ever gone surfing before? While there are few people who have truly mastered the art of this challenging ocean sport, it’s becoming more and more popular to take trips to beaches that have favorable surf conditions in order to learn the sport.

If you’re a relative novice and looking to plan a surf trip, here are some things you should do in order to ensure its success!

Do Your Research

It’s crucial to put effort into researching what beaches and areas are ripe for surfing. Planning a trip to any old beach won’t cut it, as some ocean spots don’t have currents or waves favorable for surfing.

Pick a Good Surf School

Surf schools are a great resource for those who are learning the sport. Unless you’re a pro, you will probably want to book a class at a surf school, or at the very least, use one as a place to rent wetsuits, surfboards, and other gear for your trip. Be sure to investigate and choose a good one!

Don’t Get Frustrated

Surfing is a difficult sport to learn, and there are times when it just won’t be possible to learn or catch a good wave because of weather or tides. Don’t get frustrated while on your trip at the weather nor at the slow process of learning. Just enjoy the experience!

When you’re traveling to a place outside of your own time zone, jet lag can be one of the biggest obstacles.

As fun as it might be to go to a new continent, it’s often bothersome when you and your body just can’t adjust to a multiple-hour difference in time.

Here are our top tips to help minimize jet lag and make the most of your trips.

Adjust Your Internal Clock Before Your Trip

If you can, start prepping your body for the new time zone by adjusting your schedule at home. Waking up earlier and going to bed earlier, for example, can make all the difference if you’re heading east. This will help you to adjust to the new schedule.

Sleep on the Plane

If you’re on an overnight flight, it’s essential to sleep on the plane in order to adjust to the new schedule and avoid jet lag. This will help you arrive rested and ready to take on the new city in the morning.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BZqreJUjjww/

Avoid Alcohol and Coffee

Alcohol and coffee are two no-nos while making long trips. Alcohol will dehydrate your body and make you feel worse and more tired once you arrive in a new place. Drinking coffee stimulates your body and can trick it into thinking that you don’t need rest or sleep when you really do.

Go Outside Once You Arrive

Natural light helps your body know what time it is in your destination. It helps your body’s internal clock adjust via the natural light (or lack thereof) whenever you arrive in a new time zone.

If you ask us, we think that exploring cities on foot is the best way to truly get a sense for a city’s environment and character.

With that being said, sometimes it really hurts your feet! Walking around on uneven, old sidewalks and streets can tear up your feet and make it painful to keep on exploring.

Fortunately, there are some strategies and tricks that’ll help protect your feet and keep you walking while traveling. Here are some useful tips to help protect your feet while exploring cities while traveling.

Bring Appropriate Footwear

If you’re going to be walking around a city, you need the right shoes for the occasion. You won’t want to trapeze 10 miles in a day while wearing flip-flops. Try to take appropriate shoes for walking on pavement, which could be anything from running shoes to a supportive slip-on.

Breathable Socks Are a Must

One common problem that results while traveling when walking a lot is blisters. These usually occur because your feet sweat and the wet skin rubs against the shoe, creating a blister. Breathable socks will help keep your feet dry and healthy while doing a lot of walking.

Recover with Foot Massagers

There are plenty of products available on the market that are portable and give your feet a nice massage at the end of a long day. Taking one with you will help cure foot pain and keep you ready for plenty of walking.

If you find yourself traveling to a place at a higher altitude than you’re used to, it’s quite likely that this difference will affect your body.

This type of illness has a name: “altitude sickness.” It happens to the human body when the lack of oxygen at high altitudes deprives the body of its normal amount of the gas. This causes various symptoms that can be quite uncomfortable.

Altitude sickness provokes fatigue, headaches, nausea, and vomiting, and even trouble breathing.

Here are some ways to relieve altitude sickness while traveling in high places.

Stay Hydrated

One key for mitigating the symptoms of altitude sickness is drinking lots of water. High altitudes rob the body of water through sweat and low humidity, so it’s important to drink a lot of water to avoid dehydration and feeling ill.

Avoid Alcohol and Smoking

Alcohol and smoking are two big no-nos while traveling at high elevations. Alcohol dehydrates the body, making it even harder to stay well. Smoking makes it harder for the body to absorb oxygen, which is already scares at high altitudes.

Get Plenty of Rest

Be sure not to over-exert yourself while traveling at high altitudes. It’s also important to get lots of sleep, as it helps the body to regenerate and recover.

Souks are a type of “market district” that consist of hawkers, stores, and street vendors. Marrakech’s souks are especially famous due to their massive size and the impressive array of things that can be bought in them.

This doesn’t mean that the souks are perfect or without potential dangers. It’s important to know how to stay safe and keep your wallet from shrinking too fast within them.

So, here are some essential tips to have a fantastic souk experience.

Don’t be Afraid to Say “No”

Souk vendors can be very aggressive. They may try to get you to buy things in a pushy, rude fashion. Don’t be afraid to refuse and say “no” if you feel uncomfortable or if you’re being hassled by one.

Forget Google Maps

The souks are truly a maze, and their complex and complicated structure aren’t handled well by Google Maps. It’s best to just feel your way through the souks and use reference points as a means of knowing how to navigate.

See Where the Locals Shop

If a store is packed with tourists and pushy sellers, you’ll want to avoid it. Instead, look for the stores and hawkers that deal with locals to know the best places to buy things.

Have you ever found yourself exploring a city, and then all of a sudden, your phone battery died?

While the main point of a trip isn’t to spend time on your cell phone, losing the capacity to use yours can make your trip unnecessarily challenging.

Here are some reasons why taking a portable USB charger is a life-saver while traveling.

It Allows You to Use Map Apps Constantly

When you’re exploring an unknown city or place, using a maps app such as Google Maps is a must. The days of cumbersome paper maps are long behind us, and it’s easier to navigate using a map app. Unfortunately, they do run down your battery quite quickly, so it’s important to have a portable charger with you to avoid a dead phone!

It Can Be Hard to Find Outlets

When traveling to foreign countries, it’s sometimes impossible to find a good place to plug your phone in while on the go. What’s more is that sometimes, your plug won’t even work in a new country if you don’t have a converter. Using a portable USB charger takes care of this problem.

It’s a Stress That You Don’t Have to Worry About

Traveling is about enjoying the experience without being stressed. If you’re constantly worried about a dead phone, this will cause unnecessary stress. Take a portable charger with you and stop worrying about this!
