Street art allows you to discover the art scene of new cities in the most authentic and affordable way possible. If you ever find yourself in São Paulo, craving to explore the street art wonders of this Brazilian metropolis, you should immediately head to the charming district Beco do Batman.

This fascinating alleyway is nestled in the heart of São Paulo’s Vila Madalena neighborhood, and its name can literally be translated as Batman’s Alley. It didn’t get this name because it’s as scary as the streets of Gotham—Beco do Batman is actually one of the city’s most vibrant attractions and a lone Batman graffiti was the one that started it all.

This graffiti was painted all the way back in the ’80s, and Beco do Batman ended up transforming into an ever-evolving open-air gallery in the year to come, where different colors, patterns, and styles exist in perfect harmony.

Local and international artists painted countless murals and graffiti across the walls of Beco do Batman, and they’re showing no signs of stopping. New art is constantly popping up on the streets of this lively district, which perfectly captures the dynamic spirit of São Paulo, standing as a timeless testament to its diverse artistic heritage.

São Paulo’s iconic architecture is one of its biggest draws, and we’re not just talking about modern buildings scattered across the city. This Brazilian metropolis is also home to many amazing examples of classic architecture, including these three beautiful buildings.

São Paulo Cathedral

São Paulo’s largest and most imposing Catholic church started getting built in 1913 and it took decades before its doors were opened. The building itself was designed in the Gothic revival style, but its Renaissance-style dome stands out because it was meant to resemble the Cathedral of Florence.

Ipiranga Museum

Also known as Paulista Museum, this cultural institution was built at the turn of the 20th century, in the place where Brazilian independence was proclaimed. It’s one of the best examples of Eclectic architecture in São Paulo, and its design was inspired by the Palace of Versailles.

Municipal Market of São Paulo

Another great example of eclectic architecture, the city’s most popular market is housed in a mesmerizing historic building. If its classic columns, vaults, and façade don’t take your breath away, the beautiful stained glass decorations on its windows certainly will.
