We don’t have to tell you how much travel has changed over the past year due to the pandemic. Even though traveling has started to look like what it used to, there’s no doubt that things have changed. While some changes are temporary, others may be here to stay. Here are three ways the pandemic has changed the way we vacation.

More Airline Flexibility

Postponing and canceling trips used to be really difficult and expensive, but many airlines have gotten rid of change fees for most tickets. However, cheap tickets and economy passenger ones still may have change fees. You may also have to pay the difference between the cost of your original flight and the new one.

Breakfast and Buffets Have Changed

For a while, breakfast and buffets disappeared, but now they’re coming back and they’re a bit different. At more expensive hotels, they’re back, but the food stations are staffed by people who plate the food for you and no guest touches the utensils or the food.

Your Hotel Room Won’t Automatically Be Cleaned Daily

Before the pandemic, many hotels encouraged you not to have your towels and sheets changed daily to be more eco-friendly. Now, hotels may not be able to clean every room daily because of staffing shortages. Also, you may not want people in your room unnecessarily.

We’re a month into 2021 and the Covid-19 pandemic is still far from over. Some countries are more in trouble than others so the restrictions vary depending on where you live. When it comes to traveling to Asia from the U.S., here are your options at the moment.

Maldives

International travelers have been able to get to the Maldives since July 2020, with a negative Covid-19 test as the only condition. It’s possible to get picked randomly for a PCR test once you arrive at the airport.

UAE

U.S. citizens traveling to the UAE receive tourist visas as they arrive at the airport. A negative PCR test is mandatory, though, as well as international medical travel insurance.

Turkey

Similar conditions apply when traveling to Turkey. The arriving travelers are screened for Covid and they need proof that they are Covid-19 negative not older than 72 hours.

Other Asian countries that are open to travelers from the U.S. include Nepal, Jordan, South Korea, Bangladesh, and Cambodia.

All international travelers who arrive in the U.S. will have to showcase a negative Covid-19 test starting from January 26th, 2021, as the CDC recently announced. The order applies to both U.S. citizens and foreign travelers and it requires passengers who arrive by plane to show proof of a negative test not older than three days when they fly into the U.S. They can also show proof that they’ve recovered from the disease in the past or that they’ve received the vaccine.

Currently, residents of the U.S. are can’t travel to most of the world, and the countries that allow Americans have been requiring negative Covid tests for months, so this policy is long overdue.

The pandemic restrictions affected the number of international flights a lot in the past year. It’s estimated that there’s around 75% less travel than in previous years, and the numbers of domestic flights have also been down in the U.S.

The news about a successful Covid-19 vaccine traveled around the world in the past several days, saying that it will be effective in 90% of the cases. While this certainly makes us optimistic, what does it mean for traveling in the near future?

A new vaccine that’s been developed by Pfizer and BioNTech is apparently effective in 90% of people who got it, and it’s already been tested on over 43,000 people in six countries. Until now, no safety issues have been noticed. Nine out of 10 people who got the vaccine developed immunity against Covid-19.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean that traveling will be back to normal within weeks or months. The vaccine still needs to be approved and get a license and the first millions of doses will be given to high-risk groups such as health workers and the elderly.

It may be possible for life to return to normal at some point in 2021, but we need to be patient and see how everything will develop. For now, make sure you and your family are staying safe because this promising news isn’t enough to fight the current pandemic wave.

There are so many amazing things you can see in Iceland, but the main reason we love it so much right now is that it turns out this European country is perfect for traveling during the pandemic. Here are some reasons why.

Remote Travel

Iceland is the best place to travel to if you want to stay away from other travelers. This may not typically be everyone’s preference, but it’s very useful in the time of the pandemic. Iceland is sparsely populated and has many incredible natural wonders you can check out, which means you won’t miss crowds and big cities.

Rural Resorts

Iceland is the place to go if you want to spend some time in a rural resort, unplug and rest from everything that’s going on in your daily life. Such luxury hotels offer everything you need to relax and slow down for a week or two.

The Northern Lights

One of the main reasons why people travel to Iceland from all over the world is the Aurora Borealis. To see the Northern Lights in person is something everyone should experience at least once, and it’s one of the best ways to forget about all the chaos happening in the world right now.

City breaks are the type of vacation that suffered the most from the current COVID-19 crisis. Tourism numbers dropped in many cities around the world, all thanks to the many restrictions that make travelers stay away. If you’ve had to cancel at least one trip this year, you know what we’re talking about.

Some cities have strict restrictions and their museums, public transport, and restaurants are working under special conditions, which makes it more difficult and less relaxed to visit them. In other cities, there are no restrictions, but many people simply don’t want to go to crowded places right now. City breaks are getting postponed for next year and travelers are using the pandemic as an opportunity to visit remote places and enjoy nature where there aren’t so many people.

Until the situation gets better, use this time to explore the place you live in and the surrounding nature. You’ll be surprised by some things you’ll discover, and we all hope that there will soon be a better time for traveling the world. All the amazing cities will be there waiting for you once this is all over.

Hotels are facing a big challenge this year. They’ve never had fewer visitors and more difficult conditions to work with, and it all affected the way they operate the business. Here are some things that are currently normal in hotels that we never thought about until this year.

Tiny Weddings

Hotel ballrooms used to be places that host celebrations for hundreds of guests, but that’s no longer true. Since the pandemic started, various regulations limited the number of guests at weddings and similar events to up to 50, somewhere even 20.

Remote Workers

You’ll find more people casually working from hotels than ever before. Since the pandemic started, companies had to let their workers do the job remotely, and many people are opting for a new city and a hotel as a temporary office. Have you considered doing this if your job allows it?

Face Masks

It may not look vacation-like to be greeted by the staff wearing masks, but it’s necessary and even mandatory at some places. Face masks are something we see everywhere these days so hotels are no exception.

We can now say for sure that the pandemic has changed virtually everything in our lives. From our jobs to the inability to travel and the way we perform other activities, everything is different in 2020. This is also the case with skiing and here’s how it will look like this winter.

Reservations and Fewer People

You can expect fewer people at your favorite resort this winter, simply because there will be restrictions regarding the maximum number of visitors at any given point.

Lift Rules

You’ll likely be able to ride the lifts and gondolas only with the people you cam with. This means you can forget about meeting random new people who share your love for the winter sports, which is truly sad.

Season Pass Priority

At some places, you can expect the skiers with seasonal passes to be prioritized over those who want to purchase daily tickets. This is reasonable as the businesses want to acknowledge their returning customers, and will only be done in the cases when the maximum limit for visitors is reached. Make sure to reserve your place on time to avoid this!

Depending on where you live, you may already have a chance to travel again. Still, it’s important to stay safe and follow all the necessary procedures, including social distancing. Here’s how to do that while traveling.

ready for a road trip, who is in?

Drive When You Can

If you can, it’s a good idea to drive instead of using public transport. Any vehicle with more people inside, whether it’s a plane, train, or a bus, is potentially unsafe and you’re better alone (or with family) in your car. Beware of gas stations when you stop for gas and snacks, wash your hands carefully, and use hand sanitizer!

Go to Nature

Now may not be a great time for visiting new cities and exploring their museums, busy streets, restaurants, and shopping centers. It’s better to plan a vacation somewhere where you can enjoy nature and where it’s not crowded so that you can stay safe.

Visit Less Popular Destinations

You may want to avoid the most popular destinations right now. Even during these times, there may be more people there than you’d like and there are plenty of amazing alternatives that you can explore instead, so why risk it.

Traveling solo comes with a long list of benefits, but it can be quite scary—especially in the age of uncertainty we live in now. Many passionate solo travelers can’t shake off their wanderlust despite the global pandemic, and here’s a couple of things you should keep in mind if you happen to be one of them.

Local Trips

Traveling internationally can be very risky since you could end up in quarantine during or after your trip, especially if you’re going to a country with a high number of coronavirus cases. Instead of putting yourself and others at risk, plan a fun trip in your own country or state.

Means of Transportation

Public transportation has been a breeding ground for germs long before 2020, and it’s best avoided. Traveling by car is your best option right now, but if you’re not a driver or can’t afford it, wearing a mask while traveling on a bus or train is a must.

Private Accommodation

Traveling alone usually means meeting a bunch of new people by staying at backpackers hostels, but that’s not really an option right now. Renting private accommodation is the best way to ensure you’re staying safe and avoiding high-risk contacts.
