There are many different traditions around New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day that are practiced around the world. Some are more fascinating than others, sometimes because we don’t really know how they started and sometimes because they are unlike anything we’ve seen before. Here are some of our favorite ones.

Spain’s 12 Grapes

Spaniards traditionally eat 12 grapes as the clock rings 12 times to announce the new year. In big cities, it’s common to see people in parties sharing grapes as well as bottles of cava (Spanish wine) as the clock strikes midnight.

Colombia’s Empty Suitcase Walk

Colombians who hope to travel more in the new year go around their blocks carrying empty suitcases. We especially like this tradition for the upcoming 2021 as we could all use a bit more traveling in the future!

Denmark’s Smashing Plates

There’s no New Year celebration in Denmark without some plate smashing. New Year’s Eve is celebrated by throwing some plates and glasses against the doors of friends and family in order to banish evil spirits – basically, for good luck. Does that mean they buy new plates every year?

Halloween is approaching but it will look different this year in amusement parks as they will have to make adjustments. However, they will still do whatever they can to provide visitors plenty of fun things to do. Here’s how Disney World will celebrate Halloween in 2020.

Halloween in Disney World is a magical experience. Everybody dresses up in costumes and enjoy incredible tricks and treats. This year, it will look different, and here’s how.

No “Mickey’s Not-So-Scary” Halloween Party

We’re sad about it but we understand that organizing a party is simply not safe right now. The party typically features a parade, fireworks, specialty foods and drinks, and of course, plenty of costumed characters. This year, it has been canceled due to COVID-19.

Merchandise

You’ll still be able to find Halloween-themed souvenirs like spirit jerseys, trick-or-treat buckets, Minnie witch hats, candy ears, and many more.

Main Street Decor

Main Street U.S.A. will still get Halloween decoration that you can enjoy on your way to Cinderella Castle.

“We have taken enhanced health and safety measures,” the park’s website reads. “An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. Certain parks, hotels, restaurants, and other offerings may be modified or unavailable, limited in capacity and subject to limited availability or closure, and park admission and offerings are not guaranteed.”

When you go on holiday and visit a place you’ve never been to before, you usually get to see many amazing things, but when it comes to taking photos, you may end up disappointed because nothing looks as good as in person. But don’t worry as we have three tips that will make your holiday photos look much better.

Catch Local Elements

If you take a photo that doesnโ€™t capture a distinctive local element, it may not look as exciting as you thought it would. Include in your photos the things that make the destination unique. A common photo of a busy street in London will look much more London-like if you catch a Double Decker bus coming towards you.

Capture Details

Depending on the location, you may be able to find stunning details that deserve a place in your camera roll. This is true for Moroccan and Portuguese tiles, Florence statues, Istanbul markets, etc.

Night Photography

Don just take photos during the day. Figure out the night photography settings on your phone or camera and capture the destination once itโ€™s dark and it looks completely different. Youโ€™ll have to be careful not to get blurry or shaky photos, but once you know how to do it, youโ€™ll have amazing photos and memories.

Recent research done by the mattress review site The Sleep Judge showed that a quick weekend getaway can help you relax just as much as a longer vacation. Perhaps thereโ€™s still time to plan a two-day trip to start the New Year with? After all, it will help you feel better once you get back to the office.

According to the research, employees reported feeling the most beneficial after taking a vacation that lasted six to ten days, but a one or two days trip had a similar effect. Trips that lasted from 3-5 days and those that lasted from 11 to 15 days made people feel worse about going back to work. Note that this is true for trips, not staycations, even though they both use up your vacation days.

What about workcation? The idea of packing your laptop and changing your location so you can work while on vacation is especially popular among millennials and remote employees. It can be a fun setup that combines work and vacation, but it doesnโ€™t allow for complete relaxation.

Everyone loves coming to Israel for the cultural and historical sites to see, but most people come at the wrong time of year! Come at these times and see the best Israel has to offer.

Fall

A lot of people think that summer is the time to go to Israel, but fall is so much better for many reasons. While most places are cooling off significantly, Israel’s temperature goes down to a mild summer climate, round about the low 80’s. October is probably the most ideal time because the weather is stunning but it’s not scorching hot. The sea is also still very warm so you can have plenty of quality beach time!

Purim

Purim is a giant holiday in Israel that celebrates the Jews being saved from genocide. As part of the celebration, which lasts for about a week, people dress up in elaborate costumes and makeup and party non-stop. Dressing up and getting drunk is actually one of the requirements of the holiday, so it’s easy to fall in love with the holiday.

Most municipalities will throw parties, and every bar and club will have their own as well. If you want to drink and be merry, this is the time for you to come. Purim does vary in exact dates from year to year, but it’s usually around February or March.
