]]>If you’re staying in Manchester or Sheffield, the Peak District is easily accessible via car or train. This national park offers rolling hills, some steep crags, and ancient woodland. Watching the mist roll in over the moors is really quite something, especially when you can retreat to the safety of one of Derbyshire’s many excellent pubs for a warming drink and meal. Check out the towns of Bakewell (famous for its delicious pudding) and Buxton for shopping, cafes, and restaurants.
From many of the tors (granite hill-tops) on Dartmoor, the sea is visible, giving a lovely sense of the proximity of this national park to the coastline. As fall approaches, the heather darkens and the bracken dies, lending the hills gorgeous tones of dark orange and purple. Visit the charming village of Widecombe (where you can try a lovely cream tea), or venture up to the bleak town of Princetown, where you can visit the spooky Dartmoor Prison Museum.
Spread across three different Welsh counties, this beautiful national park features some of the best hill-walking in Britain. There are numerous small towns and villages to stop off in and admire the hills from afar, or you can start hiking immediately and admire the autumnal landscapes as fall turns the hills burnt gold, ochre, and red.

]]>The Lake District was where one of England’s most famous poets, William Wordsworth, came to reside. He loved the natural beauty and splendor of this place, and many visitors would agree with him. In fall, the mountains are reflected in the lakes and the trees turn from green to gold. The cafes and pubs are much emptier than during the summer season, and you have a good chance at finding some peace and solitude in the stunning region.
Located within Transylvania, you will find plenty of forests, forts and medieval castles in this enchanting town. Hike in the hills around, or explore the quaint streets of the town itself. Legend tells that Dracula was born in the town, so take advantage of the spooky tours on offer to get in the mood for Halloween.
These mountains in central Italy are less intense than the Alps, but by no means less beautiful. Hike in the day, and in the evening enjoy the local flavors which will include foraged mushrooms, wild boar, goat cheese and fresh autumnal fruits. The changing trees are particularly beautiful in this region, turning to a mix of fiery orange and burnt gold.

]]>Trip stacking, at least, definitely is. Here’s what you should know about it.
Trip stacking refers to the practice of buying two (or more trips) over the same time period in case one of them falls through. The idea is that you will travel during a certain time one way or another, even if one trip gets canceled because of Coronavirus considerations.
It’s something that is generally limited only to the people who can afford to lose out on a whole trip and not miss the money, but it’s actually possible to do it even as a budget traveler.
See, with many airlines reintroducing flexibility of changing flights or getting refunds as the pandemic stretches on and on, you can more or less assume that you’ll be able to move your second trip to a future date if neither of the two you booked fall through.
That being said, this is definitely a risky move to make and requires a strong familiarity with your airline’s policies, as well as a high comfort level with risk. So is trip stacking something you are thinking of trying out this fall?

]]>For Americans interested in traveling but limited in their ability to travel abroad due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Florida has proven to be an incredibly popular destination. It’s especially appealing for people who want to extend their sense of summer fun into late summer and fall, as the Florida weather stays beachy well into October and even November.
Another huge trend right now in domestic travel is renting vacation homes such as beach rentals and cabins. This is because people are eager to spend time with family and close friends after so much time apart, and the privacy of a vacation home is perfect for reconnecting with loved ones. Plus, with many offering spacious kitchens, barbecue facilities, and game rooms, vacation homes are a great choice for big families who want to cook and play and enjoy time together in a way they can’t quite do when staying in a hotel.

]]>Mackinac Island is in Lake Huron, right at the top of Michigan by the border of Canada. If you like a more leisurely trip, the island offers biking, carriage rides, and restaurants from which to enjoy the golden fall trees and the lovely coastline. However, if you do like to hike, there are plenty of trails to try too.
If you enjoy hiking, a road trip up the Minnesota coast of Lake Superior is a good option. Along the drive, there are seven state parks to choose from, so hiking trails options and fall views abound. You may also be able to enjoy a boat ride around the coast.
If biking is your style, check out the longest Rails-to-Trails bike path in the US. Rails-to-Trails is an ongoing movement to turn abandoned railroad tracks into bike paths, and the Katy Trail is wonderfully converted so that it is now possible to bike across the whole of Missouri, enjoying the fire-tinged fall leaves on both sides of the trail along the way.

]]>If you’re planning a visit to a pumpkin patch this fall, be sure to do these three things to make the most of your day.
A hayride is a fun experience in which you are driven around the grounds of the pumpkin patch and farm in a wagon or cart which is pulled by a tractor. Relax with your friends or family, enjoy a hot cup of cider or coffee, and breathe in the clean autumn air!
Corn mazes are intricate designs of labyrinths made into corn fields which can commonly be found at pumpkin patches. It can be a challenge to resolve the mystery of the maze and get out, but you’ll have lots of fun and laugh a ton while doing this classic activity.
A pumpkin patch is for pumpkins after all, and there’s no better feeling than going to the fields to pick out your own pumpkin for carving, decoration, and display at your home. It’s so much more of a rewarding experience than simply going to the store and buying one!
