Sky Lagoon: Iceland’s New Breathtaking Swimming Pool

Iceland is full of incredible natural and cultural sights, and if you’re heading to the Nordic country soon, there is one new spot you should know about: Sky Lagoon. The recently opened immersive swimming pool and thermal spa is nestled on a cliff just 15 minutes from the Reykjavik city center.

Icelanders are known for their love of soaking in naturally warm waters, and the designers of Sky Lagoon sough to celebrate this old Norse bathing culture and fuse it with modern Nordic design. The resort sprawls across 5,000 square meters and features hot lagoons with infinity edges overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, cold plunge pools, a sauna, a cafe, a bar, and a turf house (one of those beautiful grass-covered cottages that Iceland and the Faroe Islands are known for).

The surroundings of Sky Lagoon are no less impressive than the facility itself—reefs, cliffs, and the open ocean can be seen from everywhere you look. The highlights of this breathtaking view are probably the old Snæfellsjökull glacier—a 700,000-year-old stratovolcano, and the Keilir mountain. If you’re lucky you may even spot a seal or two.
