Guatemala’s natural beauty is the main reason why people put this country on their bucket list. Some of its natural wonders have to be seen to be believed, and that’s certainly the case with the idyllic turquoise paradise of Semuc Champey.

This lush, tropical park in the department of Alta Verapaz is best known for its natural pools, caves, underground waterfalls, and sweeping jungle views. It’s one of Guatemala’s best-hidden secrets, hidden in the middle of the jungle, which can only be accessed by four-wheel-drive vehicles.

Semuc Champey may not be known for its easy access, but that’s not stopping it from becoming increasingly popular with tourists. Most of them are here to enjoy swimming in one of the stunning tiered turquoise pools or take a hike to the “El Mirador” viewpoint which offers some of the most beautiful views you’ll ever see.

Lanquin is the closest major town located near Semuc Champey, and getting here from one of Guatemala’s larger cities is your safest bet. Once that’s done, you should consider booking a day-tour through a reliable hotel or travel agency that will take you straight to this magical, hidden gem.
