Located in central Mexico, San Miguel de Allende is a small city located in the region’s highlands. Many consider San Miguel to be the most beautiful town in the entire country.

Not only is San Miguel picturesque, but its history and culture led to its designation as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2008.

A large reason for San Miguel’s historical value is due to the amount of baroque Spanish colonial architecture it contains. Visitors to San Miguel can see plenty of buildings that Spanish colonists constructed hundreds of years ago.

The best example of this architecture in San Miguel has to be the San Miguel Arcangel Cathedral. The Catholic authorities erected this ornate and gorgeous cathedral in the 17th century. It is the symbol of San Miguel and all travelers must pay it a visit.

If you go to San Miguel, you should also take a stroll through the Mercado de Artesanias. This is a street market in which artists sell their artisan crafts which harken back to Mexican folk art.

Finally, to round out any trip to San Miguel, you must go to “El Mirador.” This is a scenic lookout point located on top of a small mountain right next to the city center. It provides a gorgeous view of San Miguel and is a perfect place to see a scenic sunset.

Mexico might have more famous cities, but none is as charming and beautiful as San Miguel.
