Rarely included in anyone’s list of the top places to visit in Europe is the small country of Moldova. Hidden between Ukraine and Romania, it never gets the love it deserves. However, knowing what you can find here can be the first step to taking a trip to Moldova and discovering all of the gems it has to offer! Here are three of the country’s top diverse spots that you should check out.

Soroca Fortress

On the banks of the Nistru River and on the border with Ukraine, this imposing stone fort was built in the late 15th century and is still preserved to this day. With a visit here, you can explore this place, commissioned by Prince Stephen the Great, once protected the country.

Beciurile Cricova

Moldova has a strong tradition of wine-making, and perhaps the best place to experience it is Beciurile Cricova. This winery in a beautiful rural area just north of the capital of Chisinau not only makes its own wine, but also holds one of the world’s most extensive collections of rare wines in its massive cellars.

If you are looking to learn more about the triumphant, tragic, and complex history of the country of Moldova, this Chisinau museum is a great place to start. You’ll find everything from ancient pottery to weapons used in many of the country’s wars throughout its turbulent past.
