This tiny island is located in Essex, and it’s one of the most popular day-trip destinations in this part of England. It can easily be reached from all the major cities in the UK, and it only takes two hours to get here from London, but you’ll have to switch several trains or buses if you’re not traveling by car.
Mersea Island became a major Instagram attraction thanks to the pastel-colored beach huts you can find on its shores. They’ve been originally built during the 1920s, and you can still check out the remaining beach huts at West Mersea Beach.
The colorful huts aren’t the only attraction that makes Mersea Island worth a visit. You can take a boat trip, travel to Brightlingsea by ferry, try some amazing local seafood, or simply walk around and enjoy the beauty of this charming island.
