The capital of Texas is also one of the birthplaces of the notion that being weird is much better than being normal. This Texas city is booming with culture, music, nature, and more. There is so much of everything in Austin which makes it the perfect place to visit if you can’t decide between city life and a nature retreat. For that and more, visit Austin, Texas.

Music

Austin is renowned for its music scene. There is a lively electric music scene in the city, as well as rock, the blues, and even Latin American and African style music. If you are looking to see how the locals live, check out venues like The White Horse or the Sahara Lounge. If you want a classier, jazzier joint, go to the Elephant Room. This club is in the heart of downtown Austin and gives you such an incredible and exciting experience being up close and personal with the artists.

Shopping

Whether you are a fashionista or just looking for something special to commemorate your trip, Austin has a serious fashion scene you don’t want to miss out on. If you are in downtown, you have to visit Kick Pleat and Good Company, two of the hippest boutiques in the city.

Nature

If you are looking to take a break from city life and enjoy the great outdoors, Austin is the place for you. Go to the Greenbelt, which is an area managed by the city that has tons of trails for hiking, biking, and places to swim. For the best swimming spot, go to Lost Creek.  This is where a lot of locals hang out in the summer, and you will often hear it before you see it. Zilker Park is a great way to access the Greenbelt because there is an easy entrance from downtown. This area is best for running, biking, or just enjoying the trees.

Food

The food scene in Austin is incredible. With many restaurants abiding by the farm-to-table initiative, a lot of the produce and meat you will eat in Austin is within a short driving range, if not grown at the restaurant itself. It is also a haven for vegetarians and vegans who still want to enjoy good Texas cuisine.

If you are looking for vegan-friendly biscuits and gravy, the best place to go is Biscuits and Groovy. The best thing about this place is that everything on the menu can be made vegan, so there are options galore! But beware, lines can be long. Another incredible joint in the city is BBQ Revolution. This restaurant is famous for serving traditional southern comfort food, but the twist is everything is vegan!

If you don’t have any specific dietary restrictions, then your options are endless. Try Barley Swine for an extremely local experience even down to the ingredients in the cocktails. This restaurant also has a tasting menu that is a surprise to the patrons, but everything is bound to be delicious so give it a shot!
