The natural beauty of Australia never ceases to amaze us, and some of its breathtaking wonders are actually located below the ground. That’s the case with Jenolan Caves, one of the best-hidden secrets of Blue Mountains, hailed as the most ancient discovered open caves in the world.

The limestone caves date back hundreds of millions of years, making them one of the oldest cave systems you can see in person. If you decide to embark on this epic journey, you’ll get to explore a total of eleven illuminated caves, with underground rivers and rock formations that surround them.

This cave system is still being explored, and the current multi-level passages consist of 300 entrances and cover 40 kilometers. The caves vary in their depth and size, and if you ever get to see them in person, make sure to avoid touching any rock or crystal because it can cause permanent damage.

Exploring Jenolan Caves is a magical experience, but getting there can be tricky. They’re located about three hours from Sydney by car, and you can visit them by joining one of the guides tours, usually taking place between 9.30 am and 5.30 pm.
