Gum Wall: Seattle’s Most Vibrant and Unusual Tourist Spot

Seattle is home to many unusual tourist attractions that will leave you amazed and puzzled at the same time, but none of them compares to Gum Wall – a colorful brick wall covered in used chewing gum.

Gum Wall was conceived during the ‘90s when patrons of the local Market Theater started sticking gum to the walls. It grew into true work of collective art over the years, and one of the most unexpected tourist spots in the city.

Chewing gum is often seen as a bad habit, but this wall presents it in a new light – as something that connects people who never met each other and probably have nothing in common. Chewing gums don’t look like much on their own, but the Gum Wall proves something truly fascinating can happen when they come together.

Back in 2015, the wall was steam cleaned and scraped for the first time in 20 years. This process lasted for three days, but locals and tourists flocked right after it was over and started recreating it by adding new gum, creating another piece of collective art together.
