A Guide to Vegan Eating in Venice

Being vegan can be tough when you are traveling, especially if you are visiting somewhere like Italy, the home of pizza, ice cream and rich creamy pasta sauces. Fortunately, the vegan scene is improving in Venice all the time, so you don’t have to miss out just because you are meat and dairy free.

Suso Ice cream

One of the best ice cream places in Venice is Soso and they have vegan options! If they have a special flavor that’s dairy free, we recommend trying one of those.

Pasta Pomodoro

If you’re looking for a delicious pasta dish without cheese, look for the pasta Pomodoro on the menu.

Pizza Marinara

Similarly, if you’re opting for pizza, you can get a marinara. It’s like a margarita without the cheese but the sauce is so rich and tasty that it doesn’t feel like there’s anything missing.

“Senza Formaggio”

If you want a pizza that’s a little more creative, you can still order one of the veggie pizzas if you ask for it “senza formaggio” – that’s “without cheese”. The kitchen is usually happy to do this as the pizzas are freshly made so it’s no bother skipping the Mozella. You might even find that vegan cheese is available in the menu.

Vegan restaurants

Alternatively, you can head to one of two of Venice’s vegan restaurants. La Tecia Vegana and VglOloso offer an entirely meat and dairy free menu.
