Bornholm is a small island municipality in Denmark with one particular regional pride: the food. It was nicknamed a “Secret Food Island” by the BBC and locals are very serious about their culinary culture.

The Bornholm food industry is the island’s primary source of income and it is renowned for its high quality. There’s even a biking route on the island that takes you around various culinary points of interest.

The full route is just over 20 km but you can choose to do only part of it in case you get too full! The food venues included in the tour cover a wide range of culinary practices. Smokehouses for fish or meat, a brewery, a couple of caramel makers, a few chocolatiers and chocolate shops, and an ice cream factory.

Bornholm also has dairy farms, including a local goat farm. Their dairy products are award-winning led by Andels dairy, a co-op dairy founded in 1950, that works with about 44 dairy farmers daily. Andels produces creams, cheese, butter, and pasteurized milk. It even won the ”World Cheese Champion” award 3 times since the 80s!
