Tunisia is a very geographically diverse country. To the north, you have over 800 miles of coastline, while in the southern parts of the country you will find plains, mountains, and bustling cities. There are so many different aspects to Tunisia and a ton of activities that the land provides. This North African country is definitely worth a visit, especially if you follow this guide.

What To Do

Tunisia’s coastline feeds out onto the Mediterranean Sea, and the country has some of the best-known beaches on the sea in the world. The best part of Tunisia is that the climate makes visiting the beaches and swimming in the sea actually possible all year round.

Hammamet is a small town about an hour from Tunis, the capital, and has gorgeous white sandy beaches. This is the perfect beach if you want to do scuba or snorkeling.

If you are looking for crystal clear turquoise waters, you have to go to Djerba. Although it can be a little touristy, people flock there for a good reason. The sun shines down on the peninsula of white soft sandy beaches. This beach is super picturesque and is well worth the trip.

If you feel like you need a break from the tourists but still want to enjoy the beach, El Haouaria is your number one spot. The green and blue waters are absolutely breathtaking, and the best part is that there are cliffs overlooking the sea that you can hike! Definitely the place to be if you are an outdoor lover.

If you want more outdoor activities, Tunisia delivers. If it’s canyons and gorges you’re craving, visit Mides, a southern Tunisian mountain oasis. The hike is only 4.5 kilometers and you see some really outstanding natural sites.

About an hour south of Tunis is Zaghouan, one of the best places to hike in Tunisia. you have gorgeous views of the water while hiking surrounded by the Dorsale Mountains. The climate is mild in this region of Tunisia and has a lot of great rock climbing spots if that peaks your fancy.

Tunis

The capital city of Tunisia has been around since at least the 4th century BC. The town is built around the Medina, or old city, which includes many mosques, palaces, and educational institutions. The most famous and renowned mosque is the Zitouna Mosque, with its many halls and courtyards. The old city is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so you have to visit if you’re there.

Nightlife

Even though Tunis is the largest city and the capital, nightlife in Tunis is not necessarily the best in the country. If you really want to party, travel to the city of Sousse. This city is about 90 minutes south of Tunis, located right on the Mediterranean Sea. This city has many hotels with attached clubs, like the Tej Marhaba Hotel and Hotel El Hana Beach. There are also regular nightclubs like Bora Bora which is mostly full of tourists, and Platinum Metallica which is where the locals hang out and dance.
