Floralis Genérica is Buenos Aires’ Most Imposing Sculpture

If you’re a fan of modern architecture, always in the mood to discover new amazing sculptures and public installations, Buenos Aires, Argentina won’t leave you disappointed. Floralis Genérica is one of the city’s most impressive public art pieces, and it’s unlike anything else you’ll see in this city.

Designed by the Argentine architect Eduardo Catalano, this steel and aluminum sculpture has been around since 2002. It became one of the quirkiest attractions in Buenos Aires thanks to its imposing size and unique modern design.

According to Catalano, this sculpture is supposed to represent “a synthesis of all the flowers and, at the same time, a hope reborn every day at opening.” Despite its cold, stainless steel exterior, Floralis Genérica replicates the natural journey of real flowers. Its petals open every morning and close at sunset, thanks to the special electrical mechanism.

To see this imposing sculpture in the flash, head to the Plaza Naciones Unidas during your visit to Buenos Aires. It’s pretty much impossible to miss due to its imposing size since the sculpture is 23 meters high and surrounded by a charming reflecting pool which only adds to its beauty.
